Hyukjin Kim was born in Seoul, Korea in 1977.

He studied at Seoul Gomyung Elementary School (1984~1987), Seoul Seocho Elementary School (1988~1989), Seoul Seoil Middle School (1990~1992) and Seoul High School (1993~1995), respectively. In 1996, it was a bitter disappointment for him to fail the college entrance examination for Seoul National University (SNU) and Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), which was the first failure he experienced in his life.

After struggling in 1996, Hyukjin finally received admission to SNU a year later. He studied material science and engineering for the first two years, but he realized he wanted to do something else more exciting. He started a venture, a semi-portal website for college students (http://www.yah.co.kr) in 1998, and was mildly successful as the website was reported in several newspapers. After military duties from 1999 to 2001, he finally changed his major to business administration in 2002. Hyukjin joined a college club at SNU, MCSA (Management Consulting Student Association) where he met lots of friends.

In September 2004, he received an offer from Boston Consulting Group Seoul Office after a Summer Associate (Intern) for two months, but ultimately decided to join another firm. He was a Business Analyst at McKinsey & Company in Seoul from 2005 to 2007. After Hyukjin graduated from the BA program at McKinsey, he decided not to go for an MBA and directly changed his career from consulting to private equity. He worked as Vice President at MBK Partners from July 2007 to August 2015.

He lives in Seoul and loves photography and trip. Currently, he has Nikon D5 and Leica M Monochrom Typ 246. The most amazing places he has been to were Egypt in 2005, Kenya in 2008, Iceland and Greenland in 2015.

When Hyukjin looks back upon his past, he thinks he has tried his best even though there were a couple of painful trials and errors. But he believes that it is more important to learn through the events and make a step forward.

This homepage was opened in December 2000 and renovated in 2002 and 2009. This is the 4th version redesigned in May 2017. Over more than 16 years, Hyukjin could meet many friends here and share his memories and thoughts with you. He really appreciates you.

This is “what Hyukjin does” rather than “who he is”.

Please see his diary and photos for more details.

Thank you.
